Chapter 8

Marley

That morning I had received the last thing that I wanted to receive and today was not the day for this shit to happen. Tomorrow was going to be a horrible day and I was so not ready for it.

When I opened my front door, I was surprised at first. A delivery lady stood on the other side.

“Delivery for Ms. Westchester.” They said as I nodded that I was Marley.

“Sign here.” I picked up the pen and signed my name as best I could on the digital device. My signature always looked horrible, I imagined everyone else’s did as well.

As I grabbed the vase, I thanked the lady and closed the door. I still had to finish getting ready to meet Saylor for lunch.

I sat the vase full of the daises on my counter and took out the note.

‘I hope you feel better Marley. J’

I dropped the card like it burned me.

What had I done to be getting flowers from Julius. I was this close to just throwing them out, but it wasn’t the flowers fault that they had been the ones that Julius had chosen.

They were pretty. That was the only thought that I allowed myself to have about them.

I sat them further from my mind and got ready.

“I don’t know which one I love better. There both oh so good.” And they were.

Luke’s had the best honey barbeque wings on the east coast. They were so good that you may have intended to only eat six of them with the bone in, and before you knew it, all of the other six that you were going to save for later are now non-existent on the tabletop.

But at the moment we were both contemplating which slice of pie was better. Saylor’s peach cobbler. Or my apple pie.

“Darlin’ you stalking me?” That deep rumbling voice that had the effect of making my panties melt and that only belonged to one man on planet earth. York Reed Michaelson

I wanted to wipe that smug expression from his perfect face. He was the one that used to stalk me.

“Well, the way I see it, you’re stalking me, seeing as we have been here for half an hour already.”

“I’ll plead the fifth on that one darlin’.”

“You would.” I stated as I dipped my fork into the last bite of my apple pie. Not being able to resist myself and see if I could still get a rise out of him, I moaned deeply as I savored the blast of deliciousness that assaulted my tongue from the cinnamon apples.

“Seems we do have something in common.” His deep tone growled out.

Yeah, I still have that effect on him, his voice was telling but it was also in the way his jaw started ticking as his eyelids lowered the few fractions.

“Yeah? You think you know me or something?” I wanted to belt from the top of my lungs that no one knows you better than me, but I didn’t. Barely.

“You’re a man are you not?” Instead I went with that.
